Care
Product Care Instructions
At Kahana Designs, every product is made with care and craftsmanship. To keep your pieces looking their best for years to come, please follow the care guidelines below.
Handmade Lauhala Jewelry
(Lauhala-Wrapped Gold Plated Earrings & Bracelets)
Our lauhala jewelry is handwoven from natural hala leaf and wrapped around gold plated settings. Because lauhala is a natural material and gold plating is a delicate finish, a little care goes a long way in preserving the beauty of each piece.
- Keep dry. Avoid wearing your lauhala jewelry in the shower, while swimming, or during activities that cause heavy perspiration. Water and prolonged moisture can cause the natural lauhala to warp, loosen, or discolor, and can accelerate wear on the gold plating.
- Avoid chemicals. Remove your jewelry before applying perfume, lotion, sunscreen, or hairspray. Chemical exposure can break down the natural fibers and dull or strip the gold plating.
- Handle with care. Lauhala is a natural woven material and can be delicate. Avoid bending, pulling, or snagging the woven portions of your jewelry.
- Store properly. Store your pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. A soft pouch or jewelry box will help protect both the lauhala weaving and the gold plated hardware from scratches and humidity.
- Clean gently. If cleaning is needed, use a soft dry cloth to gently wipe the gold plated surfaces. Do not use water, jewelry cleaners, or abrasive materials on the lauhala portion.
- Limit sun exposure. Extended exposure to direct sunlight can dry out and fade the natural lauhala fibers over time. When not wearing your jewelry, store it away from windows and heat sources.
With proper care, your handmade lauhala jewelry will remain a beautiful and lasting piece of Hawaiian craftsmanship.
Canvas Art Prints
Our art prints are produced on high-quality canvas, designed to bring lasting color and detail to any space. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your canvas print looking vibrant and beautiful.
- Avoid direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause colors to fade over time. Hang your canvas print away from windows or in areas where it will not receive extended direct sun exposure. UV-protective glass or framing can also help if placed near a light source.
- Keep away from humidity and moisture. Do not hang canvas prints in bathrooms, near kitchens, or in any area with high humidity. Moisture can cause the canvas to warp, bubble, or develop mold over time.
- Dust regularly. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth or a clean soft-bristle brush to gently dust the surface of your canvas print. Always wipe lightly and avoid pressing down on the canvas.
- Do not use water or cleaning solutions. Avoid applying any liquid, spray cleaner, or chemical to the canvas surface, as this can damage the print and cause colors to bleed or fade.
- Handle by the frame or edges. When moving or hanging your canvas print, hold it by the wooden frame or along the outer edges to avoid leaving fingerprints or oils on the printed surface.
- Hang on a stable wall. Use appropriate wall hardware for the size and weight of your canvas. Ensure it is mounted securely and level to prevent accidental falls or damage.
- Avoid extreme temperatures. Keep your canvas print in a stable environment. Avoid placing it near heating vents, air conditioning units, or areas with significant temperature fluctuations, which can cause the canvas to expand and contract.
Cared for properly, your Kahana Designs canvas print will be a stunning piece of island art in your space for many years to come.
