Banyan Tree Lahaina — Hawaiian T-Shirt

Some things are older than memory — and the Lahaina Banyan is one of them.

The Story Behind Banyan Tree Lahaina

Planted in 1873 to mark the 50th anniversary of the first American Protestant mission in Lahaina, the Great Banyan Tree grew to cover nearly an acre of Courthouse Square, its canopy a beloved landmark of Maui's historic whaling town. For generations, it was a gathering place — for locals, for visitors, for the stories that make a community.

When wildfires swept through Lahaina in August 2023, the banyan was scorched but not forgotten. In the months that followed, new green shoots emerged from its ancient roots — a symbol of resilience, hope, and the enduring spirit of the people of Lahaina. This tee honors that tree and the community that refuses to be erased.
