Mixed with descendants of jungle fowl carried by early Polynesian voyagers — and free of mongoose predators that exist on the other islands — the moa have flourished everywhere from Ke'e Beach to Po'ipū. Roosters call before sunrise. Hens parade chicks across hiking trails. It's the Garden Isle's most accidental wildlife success story.
