Diamond Head Hike — Hawaiian T-Shirt

At the summit of Lē'ahi, O'ahu unfolds before you like a postcard come to life.

The Story Behind Diamond Head Hike

Diamond Head — known in Hawaiian as Lē'ahi, meaning "brow of the tuna" for the ridge's resemblance to the fish — is O'ahu's most iconic landmark, a 300,000-year-old volcanic tuff cone that rises 760 feet above the Pacific. The trail to its summit winds through the interior of the crater, passing through old military tunnels and up steep switchbacks before breaking open at the rim with sweeping views of Waikīkī and the coastline below.

For generations of O'ahu residents, the Diamond Head hike has been a rite of passage — a morning adventure before the tourist crowds arrive, rewarded with a panorama that reminds you just how extraordinary this little island really is. The ancient Hawaiians used Lē'ahi as a navigational landmark for canoe voyagers approaching from the open sea, a beacon that meant home was near.
