Flying Fish — Hawaiian T-Shirt

Bursting from the ocean like a silver dart, the flying fish is the ocean's most spectacular commuter.

The Story Behind Flying Fish

Flying fish are a dazzling sight off the Big Island's deep blue waters — these remarkable creatures use their enlarged pectoral fins as wings, launching themselves out of the ocean and gliding up to 200 meters through the air to escape predators below. Spotted most often at dawn or dusk from fishing boats and canoes, they streak across the surface like living silver arrows, sometimes leaping in formation that takes your breath away.

In Hawaiian tradition, the ocean's creatures are revered as kin, and the flying fish holds a special place in fishing lore — a sign of life-rich waters and a good omen for the day's catch. This shirt captures that flash of iridescent silver against a deep blue sea — the pure, joyful wildness of the Pacific surrounding Hawai'i.
