The bay is a state-protected marine life conservation district — visitor numbers are capped and reservations are required. Beyond the entrance reef lies a deeper outer pocket, a sandy keyhole channel cut through the coral, and steep tuff cliffs that drop into open ocean. The water hosts honu (green sea turtles), reef sharks farther out, and dozens of endemic species you won't see anywhere else.
