Sunset Pipeline — Hawaiian T-Shirt

At Pipeline, the ocean builds something perfect and then tears it apart in three breathtaking seconds.

The Story Behind Sunset Pipeline

Banzai Pipeline on O'ahu's North Shore is widely considered the most spectacular — and most dangerous — surf break in the world. Winter swells from the North Pacific hit the shallow reef at Ehukai Beach and throw up massive, hollow barrels that professional surfers have chased their entire careers. The Pipeline Masters, held here each December, draws the best surfers on earth to compete inside waves that can be fifteen feet or more from trough to lip.

At sunset, Pipeline takes on an almost mythic quality: the sky blazes in shades of gold and amber, the waves go glassy, and the silhouettes of surfers threading the tubes look like something from a dream. It is one of those Hawaiian scenes — raw, gorgeous, and slightly terrifying — that stays with you long after the last light fades from the water.
