The Story Behind the Road to Hana

Hawai'i Route 360 wraps Maui's wet windward coast from Pā'ia to Hāna town, passing waterfalls, lava-tube sea caves, bamboo forests, taro patches, and black sand at Wai'ānapanapa. Hāna itself stayed deeply traditional for centuries, the road being so slow and winding that the outside world barely reached it. Many Hāna families still fish, farm taro, and speak 'ōlelo Hawai'i in daily life. The slowness is the point.
