Anthuriums — Hawaiian T-Shirt

Bold, waxy, and impossibly red — the anthurium is Hawai'i's most dramatic bloom.

The Story Behind Anthuriums

Anthuriums arrived in Hawai'i from Central America in the late 1800s and found a second home in the lush rainforests of the Big Island, where the cool, misty uplands of Hilo provide ideal growing conditions. Today, Hawai'i is one of the world's premier producers of anthurium cut flowers, their striking heart-shaped spathes exported in bouquets to flower markets across the globe.

With their glossy surfaces and vivid colors ranging from deepest crimson to tropical pink and coral, anthuriums have become one of the signature flowers of the Hawaiian floral landscape. They grace hotel lobbies, lei stands, and kitchen tables alike, a splash of tropical drama that reminds you exactly where you are in the world.
