The Blue Hawaii was mixed up in 1957 by Harry Yee, the legendary head bartender at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikīkī, when a liqueur rep asked him to find a use for a curious bottle of blue curaçao. Rum, pineapple, a whisper of coconut, that electric blue — it became the signature drink of mid-century Hawai'i, the one tourists ordered and locals teased them about. Today it's a wink: corny, beloved, and forever Waikīkī.
