Manapua Bun — Hawaiian T-Shirt

Fluffy, stuffed, and impossible to eat just one — manapua is the ultimate island comfort food.

The Story Behind Manapua Bun

Manapua — Hawai'i's beloved version of the Chinese char siu bao — arrived on the islands with Cantonese laborers in the 19th century and quickly became a local staple. The name itself is a Hawaiian shortening of "mea 'ono pūa'a," meaning "delicious pork thing," which tells you everything you need to know. Whether steamed soft or baked golden, these pillowy buns filled with sweet roasted pork are a fixture at local bakeries, dim sum spots, and family gatherings across the islands.

For kamaʻāina (locals), manapua carries a deep sense of home — the kind of food that hits differently after a long day at the beach or a morning of chores. This shirt is for everyone who knows that the best manapua is warm, just out of the steamer, shared with good company on a lazy island afternoon.
