Ocean Cleanup — Hawaiian T-Shirt

The ocean gives everything — the least we can do is give it back its clean.

The Story Behind Ocean Cleanup

The Pacific Ocean surrounds Hawaiʻi on all sides and is the source of the islands’ food, culture, and identity. Yet the same currents that once guided Polynesian wayfinders across thousands of miles of open water now carry marine debris from across the hemisphere to Hawaii’s shores. Kamilo Beach on the Big Island’s southeastern coast has become internationally recognized as one of the most plastic-impacted beaches in the world, a sobering reminder of how connected these islands are to the broader ocean system.

Community beach cleanups are a regular and powerful act of aloha ʻaina — love of the land and sea — practiced across the islands by volunteers young and old. This tee honors those who show up with gloves and a trash bag, who see the work as both urgent and deeply meaningful. The ocean remembers every small act of care.
