Care Instructions
Caring for an opihi shell ring requires gentle handling because natural opihi shells are made of delicate calcium carbonate rather than hard metal or gemstone.
Cleaning
- Use a soft cloth: Wipe the ring gently with a dry or lightly dampened soft cloth to remove dust and skin oils.
- Avoid harsh chemicals: Never expose the shell to chlorine, bleach, household cleaning fluids, perfumes, or lotions, which can pit or discolor the shell.
- No soaking or submersion: Do not soak the ring in saltwater, fresh water, or ultrasonic jewelry cleaners, as moisture and vibrations can degrade or loosen the shell.
Wearing & Daily Habits
- Put it on last: Apply perfumes, hairspray, makeup, and sunscreen before putting on your ring.
- Remove during activities: Take off your ring before swimming, gardening, working out, or doing heavy-duty chores to prevent chipping or scratching the shell.
Storage
- Keep it separate: Store your ring in a soft fabric pouch or a lined jewelry box compartment so it does not rub against harder metals or stones.
- Avoid direct sunlight: Store the piece away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade the shell's natural colors over time.
