The wave breaks over a reef that produces faces of 12 to 20 feet on a regular swell, and well beyond on a heavy one. Hawaiian surfers — Eddie Aikau, Gerry Lopez, Andy Irons — built modern surf culture here, on these same sands, watching this same sun drop.
